About us
Sapphire Cat rescue is a nonprofit organization who rescues stray and abandoned cats and kittens in the Auckland area. Our purpose is to rescue, de-sex, rehabilitate and re-home stray cats and kittens, to educate people to be responsible cat owners and show compassion towards cats.
We place rescued cats into approved fosters homes where the cats and kittens are loved and can recover from their ordeal, be rehabilitated and when they are ready, placed in their forever homes. The foster homes are fully supported by a foster manager and a huge part of changing the cat or kittens life for the better.
People have different personalities and it is the same with cats and kittens and that is why we match the cat’s personality to family or person. We want a win/win situation where the public get the right cat and our cats get the right homes and everyone is happy. Purfect!
Prevention is the key. We are working on prevention strategies in association with the SPCA Cat Coalition and with local and government authorities to create changes for long term prevention. We are working on a major desexing campaign this year.
Stray cats and cat colonies are created by people and it is people that we need to educate so we can prevent cats from being dumped. If all cats were desexed and people were responsible and did not abandon or dump their cats then the stray cat population would reduce. Sapphire Cat Rescue works with some key companies, in Auckland, where we have managed cat colonies. These colonies fit in ecologically, humanely and with the company’s overall best practices.
We are in the process of becoming an Inc society and registered charirty.
Our long term goal is to have a rescue centre situated between the North Shore and West Auckland. A place where people can surrender pets instead of dumping them.
